Remedy for Constipation

There is not just one remedy for constipation but hundreds of them. Most of them provide immediate relief, but none actually treats the underlying cause of constipation. It happens every now and then to become constipated for not having consumed enough vegetables or drunk enough water. However, in the following lines I will mainly refer to cases when constipation has turned into a chronic condition that does not have a medical background.

Detoxification as a remedy for constipation

Specialists recommend colon cleansing twice a year as a way to detoxify and eliminate all the plaque accumulated in the colon. It is one of the most powerful weapons against constipation, yet it has to be done properly and according to doctor's recommendations.

There are various ways to purge the body of toxins;

–    by fasting and drinking water only, for 24-48 hours;
–    by eating apples and drinking apple juice for 24-48 hours;
–    by using a specific detoxification supplement meant to cleanse the system more gently.

Detoxification is an indirect but powerful remedy for constipation. It can nevertheless trigger adverse reactions such as frequent loose stools, bloating or flu-like symptoms. Such side effects are more intense when you have not detoxified for a long period of time, as the body is clogged with impurities. Then, the reaction would be more severe.

Don’t put your hopes high!

There is not a single remedy for constipation that can eliminate the problem or prevent it. All the existing treatments aim at reducing the discomfort and triggering the bowel movement. The therapeutic approach to constipation requires lifestyle changes so that the real causes of the problem are dealt with.

For example, let’s consider the following vicious cycle: you feel stressed, you overeat, the imbalanced diet causes constipation and you keep putting on weight. Unless you solve the emotional eating part and you self-educate for a healthy diet, you won’t be able to win the battle against chronic constipation.

Don’t put your trust in some ‘wonder’ supplement that you see advertised on the Internet, because that won’t do the magic trick for you. Yes, it may normalize the bowel movements, but when you finish the treatment, the problem is back. Another downside here is that the body often develops a tolerance when it comes to laxatives. A supplement will work for a while, then you’ll get less and less efficiency.

The right remedy for constipation

Talk to your doctor about the optimal approach to dealing with constipation. Sometimes it takes a while before you come up with a treatment scheme that suits you perfectly. It should touch on diet, hydration, supplements and weight loss at the same time for a complex outcome and for achieving the much wanted results.

A diet that you hate won’t be of much help. That’s why specialists insist on the need to follow personal preferences first and foremost when it comes to food choices, dietary changes and exercising. You may be aware that cardiovascular training does wonders for your health, but what if you hate it?

Be sure that there is more than just one remedy for constipation out there…
