How does Sugar Cause Constipation

Constipation is a condition in digestive system where a person does not have proper bowel movements. The colon needs to be cleaned frequently and the waste material needs to be thrown out. The number of bowel movements vary from person to person depending upon the food one eats, lifestyle, exercise and the physical activity, last but not least water consumption. Drinking too much water avoids constipation to a great extent.
The three most common causes of constipation are insufficient fluid consumption along with too little fiber and high sugar diet.

If a person does not drink enough water it could lead to dehydration. Along with it if his diet has less fiber content and is high on sugar the peristaltic muscles slow down which results in hard stool. The ejection of hard stool becomes difficult. Foods like eggs and other dairy products are high on fat and sugar content. Processed food like pasta, pizza and high sugar products like pastries and pies should be avoided.
Apart from this there are other causes which lead to constipation:

  • Lack of physical exercise

  • Holding back the natural urge of stool

  • Stress

  • Certain medicines like iron and calcium supplements even some pain killers can lead to constipation.

How to prevent constipation?

Healthy food

One should include lots of green vegetables and salads like cauliflower, spinach, beans, carrots etc in ones diet. One should include foods which have laxative property. Fruits like papaya, orange, bael, apple etc help in proper bowel movement. Fiber content in food helps in gas problem. One should avoid foods which are high on cholesterol. These are not only difficult to digest but they also stop other nutrition from entering in the body.

Drink plenty of fluid

One should drink lots of water and takes fluid every day. Water is a natural cleanser. It cleans the toxins from the body. One should drink 8 to 10 glass of pure water every day.  One tablespoon of honey in lukewarm water every day in the morning helps in proper bowel movement.

Regular exercise

One should do proper exercise daily. By doing so one becomes energetic and feels fresh. Walking, Swimming and yoga exercises help in strengthening of muscles which massages the intestine and colon. This helps in digestion and prevents constipation.

Changes in lifestyle

  • Eat smaller meals at regular intervals

  • Include more of green vegetables and salads

  • One should avoid taking tea and coffee

  • One should do exercise daily

Constipation is not a disease. It is a digestive problem because of improper eating habits. It can be prevented by following healthy eating habits and proper lifestyle.
