Linseed for Constipation in Pregnancy

Constipation refers to the condition of the body when bowel movements are irregular. The stools are dry and hard and it becomes difficult for an individual to pass them. If not paid proper attention it could lead to many complications.

Constipation can be experienced by anybody irrespective of age, gender and sex. It is not a disease but can lead to many diseases. Females are more affected by constipation than male. Pregnancy is the most important stage of a female but she cannot enjoy this period to its fullest because of various complications. Constipation is a common problem faced by females during pregnancy. Hormonal imbalance during pregnancy leads to constipation which becomes painful and the individual feels restless.

During pregnancy one cannot take too much of medicines because of its side effects on the baby as well as the individual. The home remedies are the natural way of treating constipation. They help the colon in functioning properly.

The food that we eat when passes through colon it absorbs the water content of the food and allows the solid part to get out of the body as stool. A person is said to be constipated when the solid waste part of the food does not pass smoothly. During pregnancy it becomes common because the hormones released during pregnancy slow down the digestive system. Iron supplements taken by few females also lead to constipation.

There are various other causes of constipation. Some of them are:

  • Not maintaining proper diet leads to constipation. One should take more of green vegetables.

  • Less intake of liquid is another reason for constipation.


Curing constipation through Linseed

  • Taking lime water early in the morning helps in constipation.

  • Linseed or flaxseed is also known for its medicinal properties which help in curing constipation.

  • One should take 3-4 seeds with plain water before meal.

  • Seeds of sunflower, almond, sesame and linseed should be grinded together and a fine powder should be made. This powder should be taken either with fruit juice or fruit salad for a week.

  • One tablespoon of linseed should be kept in a glass of water and left for two to three hours. One should drink this water before going to bed at night. This helps in clear bowel movement in the morning.

  • A past of vinegar extracted from apple and linseed is also effective in constipation. A glass of water containing linseed should be boiled till it gets thick. It should be allowed to cool. When it becomes cool half tablespoon of apple extracted vinegar should be added to it. This drink should be taken early morning. It is safe and cures constipation.

  • One should add raw flaxseed to salad. It can be grind into powder and mixed with salads and soups.

  • Linseed oil can also be used to avoid constipation.

  • One should drink milk every night. It keeps the bowel movement clear and prevents constipation.

  • Yoga is also a nice way of curing constipation. There are exercises which help in digestion and thus prevent constipation.


Using linseed is one of the safest ways of curing constipation. These help in having clear bowel movement and preventing constipation during the most precious days of a female.
