Natural Constipation Cures

There are many reasons for constipation.  It can be caused by diet, disease, or personality. It could be a chronic or occasional issue.  It happens to everybody, from babies to the elderly and every body in between.  It’s an uncomfortable situation, no matter who’s experiencing it.  And taking medication is not necessarily the best option.  Below is a discussion of some common constipation home remedy that will get you going in the right direction.

If it’s a constipation in baby, there are a few things you can do.  One is, be sure that’s what’s wrong!  If the poop comes out like rabbit pellets, you can be pretty sure it’s constipation.  First, look at their diet; if they get constipated every time they eat a particular food, then don’t give them that food!  It takes a bit of attentiveness, but out of all the constipation cures it’s by far the easiest.  Second, if you need to get them going again, give them a little bit of molasses mixed into some apple juice.  It will help ease their discomfort, without inflicting any artificial medication on their little bodies.  And remember, they’re small, so a little goes a long way!

For those of us who are a bit older, natural constipation cures can be a little more varied.  First let’s look at the occasional bouts of constipation.  They may be triggered by a particular, stressful incident, a particular food that you don’t eat very often, or a food in which you over-indulged.  For some people, cheese is a trigger.  For others, it’s chocolate.  Still others get plugged up by potatoes.  Obviously, avoiding what caused the incident will prevent it from happening in the future!  Whatever the cause, here are a few constipation cures.  You can try prunes and prune juice, also known as dried plums for those who don’t like the associations that cheeky girl at the checkout counter makes.  Staying well hydrated also helps.  Remember, coffee is a diuretic, the opposite of what you want!  Just don’t go overboard on your cure, or you’ll have another problem to contend with.

For people who have chronic constipation, prune juice isn’t going to cut it.  First, look at your diet.  The ideal diet for someone looking for constipation cures will be low in fat and high in fiber. That means cut out the red meat and eat your salad, please, and I don’t mean iceberg lettuce!  Romaine, red and purple leafy greens, kale, chard, and the like are ideal.  Apples also have quite a bit of natural fiber.  Avoid red meat, instead having fish or legumes.  If dairy is a part of the problem, avoid it.

Second, look to your lifestyle for a relief for constipation.  Avoid stress.  Exercise regularly.  Stay hydrated.  Get a massage, and have the therapist do some work on your abdomen.  Clockwise strokes help get things moving, and if the therapist is trained in visceral manipulation, she or he can really help you.
